Working it Out

“Marriage is an alliance entered into by a man who can’t sleep with the window shut, and a woman who can’t sleep with the window open.”     ~George Bernard Shaw

Though the boyfriend or girlfriend seems perfect, it doesn’t take many days or weeks of marriage to find something between the two of you that chafes and aggravates and annoys.  Even the smallest of issues–which you wouldn’t dream of labeling as an issue–can morph into one much like microscopic cells can morph into a malignant tumor.

That’s when commitment kicks in, and character has to rise to the challenge.  You figure it out, you work it out, you learn to forgive, and you wind up learning more about love (the verb, not the emotion) than you ever thought there was to know.

  1. Bill –

Thanks, bud. But if I used the word “we” I would imply that I need to pay attention to my own advice, and we all know that I already have it all together.

    Cough.
